Addressing the Real Questions
Buying from Japan auctions is different from walking into a dealership.
It is normal to have questions.
How long does the process take?
Vehicle delivery typically takes 6–12 weeks from the successful auction bid to delivery in New Zealand, depending on the auction house, vehicle model, auction grade, shipping schedules and compliance requirements.
Why are prices competitive?
Japan’s vehicle turnover is high, and strict inspection laws encourage regular upgrades. This creates access to well-maintained vehicles at strong value compared to local retail pricing.
What about hidden damage?
Auction reports disclose structural and cosmetic conditions. We review these details with you before bidding.
Is it safe?
Japan’s auction system is one of the most regulated in the world. Vehicles are graded by certified inspectors. We guide you through auction sheets so you understand exactly what you are bidding on.
Do I have to pay first? What if something goes wrong?
Your peace of mind is our priority. We make the import process transparent by keeping you informed and involved at every stage.
1. Consultation & Approval
We’ll discuss your requirements, budget, and preferred vehicle. Before placing any bid, we’ll review the auction details, estimated costs, and all available options with you. We never place a bid without your prior approval.
2. NZ$1,000 Bidding Deposit
A refundable NZ$1,000 bidding deposit is required before participating in the Japanese auction. This confirms your commitment and allows us to bid on your behalf.
3. After a Successful Bid
Once your vehicle is secured, we’ll provide the official Japanese auction sheet and auction photos so you have complete documentation of the vehicle you purchased.
4. Payment Schedule
After you’ve reviewed the auction documents, a 30% payment is required. The remaining balance is only payable before the vehicle is registered in New Zealand, giving you confidence that your vehicle has arrived and is progressing through the final stages.
5. Shipping & Insurance
Your vehicle is fully insured while in transit from Japan to New Zealand. We also provide shipping updates throughout the journey so you always know where your vehicle is.
What if something goes wrong?
If any unexpected issue arises during the buying, shipping, or import process, Moku will manage it on your behalf. We work directly with the Japanese exporter, shipping company, insurance provider, compliance centre, and other partners to resolve any issues as quickly as possible. You’ll receive regular updates, and we’ll guide you through every step until your vehicle is safely registered and ready for collection.
Our goal is to make importing a vehicle from Japan simple, transparent, and worry-free.
